phase
The underground seminary is currently being discussed among the members of the landingplace community in order to be fully implemented outside of its initial “experimental phase”. The members of the landingplace community would like to see the next season of the underground seminary as fully open to the public and eventually to be used as an alternative resource for institutions of higher learning in service to God through His church. In accordance with the tradition of our church, we will continue to strive toward education within the context of community. We will ask that those who participate in the Underground Seminary, also participate in the story of God within the local communities of the landingplace church.
The 4th phase of the Underground Seminary will be seeking to more holistically immerse it’s students into the particular mission of God in the communities within which they are studying. It is our conviction that the context of the reader will shape the hermeneutics of the reader and as such, we hope to engage the people and places around us as a means of education.
Topics of the next phase are as yet undecided. However, they will most likely revolve around topics that the landingplace has traditionally held as its primary distinctives. This includes, ecclesiology, eschatology, ethics, biblical studies, and politics. These topics will be dealt with from a wide variety of perspectives, but the teachers claim a particular heritage shaped by the writings of the early church and the anabaptist movement.
Specifics that are currently being tossed around are as follows:
- Hermeneutics of Place.
- Social Justice in the Scriptures. Studies in Amos and James
- The Politics of Church
- The Suffering God / The Suffering Church. Studies in trinitarian theology and community.
The time line of the next phase is dependent on numerous factors. However, it is assumed that it will most likely be as least one year from now before we launch.
